It's Just Not the Same

As you can see, it's been ages since my last post. Some of the blame rests with my extended lack of blogging energy and creativity. The rest of the blame rests solely on my sudden antipathy when it comes to reading. While I was once a voracious mystery reader, now I find it a chore to even pick up a book to start it. And, sadly, that includes my very favorite mystery series...all of them.

Take, for instance, the new Janet Evanovich book Fearless Fourteen. I like to say I discovered this series from the outset...when no one had ever heard of this new mystery author. I've read each and every book in her series and would always be the "first one on the block" to go out, buy the newest title and then finish it within a day.

So, here Fearless Fourteen is released and it takes me more than a week to buy it. Then it takes me a few days to begin to read it and I'm less than halfway through it. And what am I doing right now instead of taking some time to sit down and read? I'm blogging! Go figure...

Finally...A New Read

I've been wandering around the house looking for something, other than the paperbacks sitting on my nightstand, to read next. I kept hoping I'd accidently forgotten a gem somewhere in the piles of "stuff" strewn throughout the house. No such luck. Then today Hubby and I were in our favorite Big Box Warehouse when we passed the display table of new books for sale. There, calling my name, was "Sweet Revenge," the new mystery by Diane Mott Davidson. I immediately grabbed a copy (looking for one whose cover was intact and not creased, soiled etc.) and placed it in our shopping cart. So here I am at home and where is the book? It's in the back seat of my car in the garage. I guess I need to get my fanny out of this chair and go get it so I can begin reading it at dinner. Oh goody, goody!!!

Not A Book In Sight

It's been more than a week since I finished my last book and I still haven't found something new to read. I spent the past week housesitting at my sister's house and usually I find the time to read. I did bring along a few paperbacks but, for some reason, I just couldn't seem to get motivated to read them. The paperbacks are still sitting in my suitcase (yes, I still haven't unpacked) and I'm thinking maybe I'll go to the bookstore this week in search of something else to try. Sigh...just what I need...more books sitting by my nightstand.

Done...Finished

Yeah!!! I finished "Justice Denied" yesterday over my morning coffee. I raced through the last few chapters so I could finally put the book to rest. Did I enjoy it? Yes...in my usual "OK that was interesting" kind of way. There seemed to be a myriad of plot lines that finally came together and I had a few problems with remembering which victim and suspect went together but I managed to make sense of it in the end.

So now the book goes into the box I keep by the front door so I can remember to hand it off to my friend who shares my mystery book passion. And I'm now faced with the prospect of finding something new to read. I have a number of paperbacks I've bought in recent weeks (and my friend has given me several as well) but none of them seem to be calling out to me at the moment. That's always been a problem for me...I find interesting sounding books to buy but, when the time comes to start them, suddenly they don't sound so interesting to me. Oh well...I'm sure I'll find something to read.

Plodding Along

Well I'm still reading the same book after nearly a week and I haven't made a heck of a lot of progress. It's not that I'm not enjoying the story. I love J.A. Jance writing style and characters. It's just that I've been feeling punky lately and I can't seem to motivate myself to pick up the book to read. I had a migraine yesterday so maybe that's been my problem...it's probably been building up the past few days and so my brain and eyes haven't wanted to spend any time working. Right now I'm feeling like I'm wearing a hat two sizes too small and my eyes feel like they're holding back a whole lot of pressure so the book still sits on the kitchen table. Maybe tomorrow...

How Long Do We Have to Wait?

Okay...I'm done...I've finished "The Secret Servant" and now I'm sad. I absolutely loved the book and finished it in only two days. I actually finished it yesterday morning (by reading it instead of reading the morning paper with my coffee) but I had lots to do yesterday so this is my first chance to moan about it's completion. Now we have to wait months and months and months until the next book in the series...[sigh...] Of course, we're a heck of a lot luckier than those Harry Potter fans who have come to the end of the series with nothing to look forward to.

So, if you're reading this Daniel Silva...hurry up and get cracking! We need to know what's next for Gabriel Allon.

Oh Boy...It's Finally Available

Although I am an avid mystery reader, there are certain series which take me away from that genre. One of them is the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva. I fell in love with these books a few years ago when a friend's daughter lent her the first in the series and then the book made its way to me. Since then, I've read them all and recommended them to my sister and brother-in-law who are now also hooked.

I've been waiting patiently for the next in the series and the book, "The Secret Servant" was finally released on Tuesday. I, of course, had to rush to my Big Box Warehouse that very day to buy a copy and had plans to start reading immediately. Unfortunately, yesterday was filled with activity and so opening the book for the first time was delayed until this morning. Now I'm 170 pages into it and I had to pull myself away from it to do some blogging chores. As soon as I'm done here, it's back to the book.

Just thought you'd like to know.
